Athlete of the MonthFebruary

Andrew C.

Get to know our February MoM, Andrew!

What or who brought you to High Function Fitness?

I met Jeremy and Emily in 2013 at their prior employer. They helped me lose 60lbs and I’d follow them to Alaska. I still pull up the e-mail (of my former employee picture) because people saw my picture and then saw me in person and said you don’t look like this anymore.

What was it like getting started? How did your first workout go?

When I started, it was hard – but every time I went into workout, I just tried to do a little more and get a little better; and I would end up doing a lot more and a lot better the next time.Oh, and it required a lot of hot shower and baths (from being sore)

How long have you been a member and what has changed in your life during that time due to your experience here?

I’ve been a member since Day one. I feel better. In everything. I just feel physically and mentally better.

What do you like about HFF that keeps you coming back?

Generally, how I feel and it’s just different from day to day. I think I’m unique in the sense that I bounce around the different classes (mornings, noons and evenings) so I know everybody here. The connection to the other members is important

What class time do you attend the most, and are there any regular members you work out with?

I did a partner workout with Dennis once, and ever since then, I don’t think he likes to be my partner, so I like to be his partner because he gets razzed up. And I think it makes me go harder. I also like it when the coaches jump in. And, Bill Covino – I love working out with Bill and want to be him when I grow up.

What are you most proud of accomplishing?

I’m most proud of my consistency here, especially lately.

What are some of your favorite workouts or experience(s) with HFF and the community here?

I like anything that’s more like mentally tough than physically tough. So if it’s cold outside, it’s another reason to run. I like long workouts too. 30-minute plus AMRAPs – the ones everyone hates.

What are your short term and long term goals?

Short term: to win the [healthy living] challenge. I’m really competitive if you can’t tell.

Long term: to get fit, stay fit, strong, Be Bill Covino.

What advice do you have for our newer members or those thinking about jumping in?

That it’s for everybody, honestly, don’t be afraid to try it because you’d be surprised what you can do once you try something.

Tell us a little about yourself – where do you work? What are some of your favorite hobbies outside the gym?

I’m technically a CPA, I’ve been doing business consulting for a while now I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies, but seeing my kids play sports. I have two boys – 15 and 11.

Motto or Phrase you live by?

“What’s the motto with you?” “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” – Ferris Bueller

Favorite music to listen to while working out?

While I’m working out, I like Eminem or mid-90s rap.

What is something we might not know about you?

While I like to listen to mid-90s rap when working out, I really enjoy country music and attending country concerts. There might be pictures of me in a cowboy hat, boots, and Patron.
